On the first week, I begin my assignment by going through the module booklet one more time after the assignment briefing to come up with my own summary. Not long after, I proceed to start my research on famous interior spaces around the world. After I had gathered up my options, I finalise my choices from each website. I also look for famous architect for inspirations, which then I was introduced to Frank Gehry. I like how there's flexibility and no form of restriction in his design which makes his creation stands out from others.

I then proceed to finalised my interior spacings. The spaces that I choose shares one similarity which is minimalist and modernised. I also try to look for spaces that have interesting corners and wall arrangements just in case as I can include more red dots within the space for better options and connections.

WEEK 3: IDENTIFYING POINTS WITH DOTS

During week 3, I am comfortable with the amount of  interior spaces I was able to gather. For my convenience, I used Pages which is an app from MacBook to identify the red dots with the templates given by Mr Paul since it is compulsory to be in A4 sizing. Only then, I screenshot and transfer the information to PowerPoint.

WEEK 4: MOCK UP MODEL & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT SKETCHES

On Week 4, I was already done with most of my Part 1. After choosing my favourite interior space, I did not waste any time and proceed to create a mock up model. The mock up model is basically to give me a better grasp on the glueing technique and identifying possible connections.

My final decision on the interior space that actually resembles a swordfish jumping out of water that reminds me of Frank Gehry's fish sculpture.

Second model is created to improve the overall looks of the model and to bring out a more obvious outline for further developments on the final model.

WEEK 5: COMPLETION OF SIDE PRESENTATION AND FINAL MODEL

During week 5 which is also the submission week, I created another model for plane exploration purposes. This is to provide a better understanding of void and to create that confined space. The planes are made from mounting board which now I have a clearer vision of my final model outcome.

I proceed to use balsa wood to create the planes and different heights of wood dowels to create a unique dimension and void.

I proceed to compile all the informations such as 3D explorations and design sketches into PowerPoint presentation slides.

The Outcome

After weeks of hardwork and struggles, I was satisfied and grateful with my final outcome. Overall, this assignment was able to improve my spatial understanding and knowledge regarding design principles. It is a great experience and pleasure to work on something that's completely new to me. I am very happy that I am able to finish this assignment in time.

My Reflection

1. Lifelong Learning

Through this assignment, I learnt to be independent and have a better time management. Along the way, I had a difficult time researching for the right and suitable space but now I am able to identify the points effectively. I'm encouraged to make mistakes along the way and learn from it which is the majority reason why I was able to complete my assignment in time.

2. Thinking and Problem Solving Skill

Through this assignment, I am required to think critically and creatively choosing the right material for model building. I had to think about the pros and cons of each material and I ended up choosing balsa wood since it is lightweight, buoyant and a highly versatile wood that also add an aesthetic look to the model.

3. Intrapersonal Skills

Through this assignment, I realised the importance of double checking. I realised that some of the planes were falling apart and wood dowels were not stable and I was only able to notice them through double checking. I was also able to add in a few details and and balsa wood plane to enhance the presence of void and improve the overall look of the assignment.
