Architectural Design is a course that serves as an introduction to the field of architecture. This preliminary design module attempts to exhibit and explain design in terms of tectonics through the expression of'self' and body perception, construction, and materiality. The essential methodologies, principles, and approaches in design thinking and basic spatial design will be introduced through a series of studio-based exercises and tasks. Understanding anthropometrics and building intrapersonal space with creative exercises using the user's body movements and experiences would help with this.
A chronological survey of the developments of Ancient architecture to Western architecture from the beginning of time to the period of Enlightenment, with consideration of the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economic factors which have influenced the design of buildings. These issues are explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and philosophy of significant exponents
THEORIES OF ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
The subject explores the history of South, Southeast and East Asian architecture as a whole within a systematic treatment of architectural design and city planning through three key themes: sustainability, tradition and modernity & globalisation. These themes will proceed from the establishment of a basic theoretical apparatus to the examination of a specific cases.
