My Progress
WEEK 1-3: RESEARCH
On the first week, I begin my assignment by going through the module booklet one more time after the assignment briefing to come up with my own summary. Based on the briefing, I am required to select five buildings from the given list, one building for each topic. After I had gathered up my options, I finalise my choices from each category. I then go on to internet to find inspirations since infographic manner is still new to me.
The buildings I picked are Skara Brae, Temple of Horus, Roman Temple, Cathedral of Florence and finally Chiswick House. These particular landmarks are my favourites for each topic, therefore I believe I can better execute these buildings and recreate them. Once I am certain of my choices, I did not waste anytime and proceed to collect datas and informations on my note until I'm satisfied and confident that I can utilise my spaces wisely.
WEEK 4: COMPLETION OF SKARA BRAE
During week 4, I am comfortable with the amount of informations I was able to gather. For my convenience, I further breakdown the informations and highlighted a few key points. I also simplified sentences and paragraphs to fulfil the infographic requirement.
With that saying, I proceed to draw Skara Brae. The Stone Age village, Skara Brae.
Drawing Skara Brae is extremely difficult and requires a lot of effort especially on the details of each stone structure such as shading and hatching. Regardless, it was definitely a memorable experience and the knowledge and wisdom that I gained from this particular chapter will be remembered.
WEEK 5: COMPLETION OF TEMPLE OF HORUS
On Week 5, despite completing Skara Brae in expected time, I was very anxious with Temple of Horus. This week is especially hard since I only have 7 days to complete the drawing but at the same time I also have to free up my time for Architectural Design and Design Communication. To make sure I am able to keep up to the schedule, I would reduce my sleeping hours to complete my drawings.
Below would be the completion of Temple of Horus. The second largest temple in the world.
Although its been decided that I am presenting my drawings in monochrome, but I decided to give it a little bit of golden brownish colouring on the mini map and the texture of the sand. It is an honour to learn about such a fascinating landmark especially during the ancient times. It is hard to believe such ginormous structure can be built back in the days without the current technology and equipments.
WEEK 6: COMPLETION OF ROMAN TEMPLE
During week 6, almost half of my drawings are completed ahead of the schedule. Which then brings me to the third topic which is "Ancient Greece & Rome". Since I grew up reading Percy Jackson novel, I always liked the mythical beasts and gods of Greek, not to mention, the stunning temples.
Which then, I started the drawing by comparing Etruscan Temple with Greek Temple, which are commonly mixed up and causes confusion to most people.
There's a lot of details on the Roman Temple, which explains how much effort and precision were put into one single temple. The gorgeous capitals and unique columns caught my attention the most. The specially designed multi groin walls to improve lighting and air flow was a truly inspirational invention.
WEEK 7: COMPLETION OF CATHEDRAL OF FLORENCE
Cathedral of Florence also known as The basilica di Santa Mana Del FIorence is the main church of Florence, Italy. The exterior may already look amazing itself but the interior gets even better. The mechanism designed by Filippo Brunelleschi himself, an engineering feat of such difficulty to hold each section into place is brilliant.
The beautiful church gives off a sense of unity and balance while also its unique features to stand out from others.
WEEK 8: COMPLETION OF CHISWICK HOUSE
Chiswick House is among the most glorious examples of 18th-century British architecture and makes a fascinating day out in West London. The third Earl of Burlington, who designed this noble Roman-style Palladian villa, drew inspiration from his Grand Tours of Italy.
The most challenging part to replicate is definitely the unique layout and the geometry of the rooms. Chiswick Villa was the first domestic building in England to be designed with a central room which provided access to other rooms around its perimeter. With Chiswick House being the final drawing. A whole load of burden were lifted of my shoulder.
The Outcome
After weeks of hardwork and struggles, I was satisfied and grateful with my final outcome. Overall, this assignment was able to improve my knowledge regarding the history of architecture and sketching skills. It is a great experience and pleasure to work on something that's interesting and open up the opportunities for me to learn about the history of architecture. I am very happy that I am able to finish this assignment in time.
My Reflection
1. Lifelong Learning

Through this assignment, I learnt to be independent and have a better time management. Along the way, I had a difficult time extracting important information but now I am able to identify it effectively. Instead of seeking for help, I chose to learn by myself through the help of internet and complete my assignment in time.
2. Thinking and Problem Solving Skill
Through this assignment, I am required to think critically and creatively choosing the right building for each topic. I had to think about the pros and cons of each building especially the difficulties to execute and based on my personal interest. I also ended up choosing colour pencil over water colour for the sand and map of Edfu since it has lower risk of ruining the texture and clarity of artline.
3. Intrapersonal Skills
Through this assignment, I realised the importance of double checking. I realised that some of the pencil marks are left on the final product of my assignments and I only noticed that after double checking. I was also able to add in a few details and informations to improve the overall look of the assignment.
